Wes Gordon
WES GORDON - a name synonymous with luxury, timeless elegance and sophistication with a young, modern edge. Incorporating the finest fabrics, haute-couture detailing, and his own unique interpretation of today’s modern feminine mystique, Wes Gordon leads the Fashion Industry’s pack of talented, up-and-coming young designers.
A native of the South, Gordon grew up surrounded by the elegance and romance of Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended the prestigious Lovett preparatory school. His academic achievements gained him entrée into some of the nation’s most competitive universities. However, Gordon forewent pursuing the traditional academic road in favor of his passion: fashion.
Enamored with high fashion from an early age, Gordon spent his evenings studying in the studio of a former Russian couturiere. There, he learned firsthand the perseverance and precision required of beautifully made clothing. Solidifying his aspiration to be one of the Fashion Industry’s greats, Gordon enrolled in the famously competitive Central Saint Martins University of Art and Design in London.
During his tenure at CSM, Gordon had the great fortune to be mentored by Howard Tangye, the revered head of the legendary womenswear program, who instilled in the young designer a passion for combining fine art with fashion. Gordon also spent his time between school semesters honing his skills with two industry icons – Oscar de la Renta and Tom Ford, where he learned the absolute importance of knowing the woman for whom he was designing.
Gordon’s innovative take on couture continually earned the praise of his tutors and the pattern cutters. Furthermore, London’s social scene provided the perfect testing ground for the budding designer. Gordon began designing and producing dresses for the young ladies he befriended at parties and in clubs, forming an early clientele. In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious Jenny Packham Bursary for Design Excellence.
Following his graduation in the summer of 2009, Gordon began laying the groundwork for his eponymous line of womenswear and presented his first collection in February at the Fall/Winter 2010 New York Fashion Week. Vogue also profiled the young, up-and-comer in their April issue and Harrods Magazine named Gordon the “Best Newcomer in Womenswear”.
